The sacred shrine of Baba Amarnath can be reached via two primary routes, each offering a distinct experience:
Distance – 15 km
Route – Baltal – Domali – Barari – Sangam – Amarnath Cave
This is the faster route, taking only 1–2 days for a round trip. The trek starts from Baltal and passes through Domali, Barari, and Sangam before reaching the Amarnath holy cave. It’s steep and challenging, so you can only walk or use dandies (no ponies are available). This route is best for those who are fit and have less time.
Distance – 36 – 48 km
Route – Pahalgam – Chandanwadi – Pissu Top – Zoji Bal – Naga Koti – Sheshnag – Warbal – Mahagunas Top – Pabibal – Panchtarni – Sangam – Amarnath Cave
This route is longer but more popular, taking 3–5 days (one way). It starts from Pahalgam and goes through Chandanwari, Pissu Top, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni. This path is easier, with beautiful views and services like ponies and palkies, making it suitable for seniors or families.
Both routes lead to the same sacred Amarnath Cave. Choose the one that fits your time and health, and enjoy this spiritual journey in the peaceful Himalayas.
