Home > Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Yadadri : History, Significance & How To Reach
Nestled in the serene hills of Yadadri in Telangana, the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple stands as a beacon of faith and devotion for millions of pilgrims. This sacred shrine holds a special place in the hearts of devotees who come from far and wide to seek the blessings of Lord Narasimha, the mighty half-man, half-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Yadagirigutta, located in Telangana’s Nalgonda district, has deep-rooted spiritual significance. According to the Skanda Purana, Sage Yadarishi, the son of Rishi Rishyasringa and Santa Devi, performed intense penance inside a cave here with the blessings of Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya). Pleased by his devotion, Lord Narasimha appeared before him in five divine forms—Jwala Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Gandabherunda Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha, and Lakshmi Narasimha. These five manifestations came to be worshipped as the Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.
It is believed that after Yadarishi attained moksha, tribals began worshipping the deity but performed rituals incorrectly. As a result, Lord Narasimha withdrew into the hills. Many years later, the deity revealed himself to a devout tribal woman in a cavern, reaffirming the temple’s divine presence. The golden Sudarshana Chakra atop the sanctum, visible from 6 km away, is said to possess mystical powers and at times moves on its own, guiding devotees towards the temple.

Yadadri holds deep mythological importance as it is believed to be the place where Lord Vishnu appeared as Narasimha in five forms, collectively called Pancha Narasimha Kshetram. According to legend, a sage named Yadarishi performed intense penance on this hill, leading to the divine manifestation of Narasimha Swamy. The deity later married Goddess Lakshmi, making it a sacred site for both devotion and marital blessings.
The ancient yadagirigutta temple was built in a cave-like structure with intricate carvings and traditional stone architecture. It housed the original self-manifested deity, attracting devotees for centuries.
The recent transformation has turned Yadadri into a majestic temple complex, crafted using Krishna Shila (black granite). The temple now features seven gopurams, stunning sculptures, and gold-plated vimanas, reminiscent of South Indian temple grandeur. The design incorporates shilpa shastra (Vedic architecture), ensuring spiritual vibrancy and historical authenticity.
Winter provides the most pleasant experience for visiting Yadadri Temple, with comfortable temperatures (15°C-28°C) ideal for exploring the hill shrine. Summer brings considerable heat (30°C-45°C), so early morning or evening visits are recommended. While monsoon seasons offer lush green surroundings, they can make stone steps slippery. For religious significance, Narasimha Jayanti (Lord Narasimha’s appearance day) draws thousands of devotees, and Saturday visits are considered especially auspicious. The Morning Aarti (6:00 AM) and Evening Aarti (6:30 PM) offer spiritually enriching experiences regardless of when you visit.

Yadadri Temple, also known as Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple or Yadagirigutta Temple, is a beautiful Hindu temple sitting on a small hill in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana. What makes it truly special is that it’s one of only five sacred temples in India dedicated to Lord Narasimha (the half-man, half-lion form of Lord Vishnu). The idol here is self-manifested (Swayambhu), which means it appeared naturally and wasn’t made by human hands – many believe this gives it extra divine power!
Getting to Yadadri is quite easy:
Yadadri Temple is one of the Panch (five) Narasimha Kshetrams in India, housing a self-manifested idol of Lord Narasimha. The temple has ancient roots with rich history and cultural importance. The temple has an ancient history dating back centuries. It was first built in the 13th century as a place of worship for Lord Vishnu’s devotees. Lord Narasimha appeared before him in five different forms. The name “Yadadri” itself comes from Sage Yadarishi.
