Bir Billing is 2nd Highest Paragliding site in the World

Bir Billing, India’s paragliding hub, is famous for its high-altitude landscapes. Bir and Billing are two different places in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Billing is the take-off site for paragliding, and Bir is the landing site.

The distance between these two is about 16 kilometers. Famous for paragliding, Bir & Billing is also renowned as the “Paragliding capital of India.” One gets to see Bir’s traditional “Himachali” culture and spectacular views of Billing.

Baijnath Temple | 14 Km from Bir

1. Baijnath Temple: It is a historical temple of “Lord Shiva” situated at a distance of 14 km from Bir. It is believed in mythology that when Ravana brought the Shivling from the Himalayas as a memory of Lord Shiva, he placed the Shivling here for rest. Later this spiritual aura site was established as a temple by the Pandavas.

2. Billing: Paragliding is incomplete without Billing, which is the launching point of paragliding located about 16 km from Bir. Sherab Ling Monastery Near Bir

3. Sherab Ling Monastery: Sherab Ling Math or Monastery is situated at a distance of 13 km from Bir. Established by the followers of Bodhi Dharma, this monastery is a replica of Buddha on the foothills of the Himalayas. 4. Bangoru Waterfall: Situated 5 km away from Bir, Bangor Falls is one of the best places to visit near Bir. Situated between Gunehar village and Billing valley, this waterfall is also an ideal place for trekking and camping, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding places with running water.

Best Time To Visit Bir Billing:

Bir-Billing is an ideal place to visit in all seasons, but the best time to visit here or the season is from October to March.

Bir Billing in Summer (April to June): Summers are comfortable in Bir and Billing, with temperatures varying from 11°C to 25°C. Especially in the high altitude areas of Billing, the temperature is about 10°C to 15°C, below normal ranges.

Bir Billing in Monsoon (July to September): Monsoon affects the tourism of Bir Billing; due to incessant rains, all adventure activities come to a standstill. At this time, the temperature remains around the average of 13°C, but the rainfall reaches 70 percent.

Bir Billing in Winter (October to March): Winter season is the best time to visit Bir Billing. The skies are almost transparent, ideal for paragliding and other adventure activities. The average temperature during this time ranges from about 8°C to 14°C. And there is also a lot of snowfall in the higher altitude of Billing.

How To Reach Bir Billing:

There are several ways to reach Bir, which makes the journey of every tourist easy and comfortable:-

By Air: There is no direct air flight to Bir. Kangra Airport is the nearest airport, located at a distance of about 65 kms. Kangra Airport is well connected to major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Mumbai, where you can reach them directly. From Kangra Airport, you can book a bus or taxi to Kangra city, where you can directly reach Bir via Baijnath.

By Train: Baijnath Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Bir Billing. It is well connected to Joginder Nagar, Saraigarh, and Pathankot Railway Station, where you can reach Baijnath directly. You can book a local bus, taxi, or cab and reach Bir.

By Road: You can directly reach Bir by road. 

  1. Delhi to Bir – Delhi is the capital of India, and the distance between Delhi to Bir is 495 kms. You can get many buses from Majnu ka Tilla to reach Bir. Or else you can book a direct bus from Delhi’s Kashmere Gate to Bir.
  2. From Chandigarh – To reach Bir from Chandigarh, you can take a bus to Baijnath and then go to Bir by taxi. If the Baijnath bus is unavailable, you can take a bus to Palampur or Kangra and then again take a bus to Baijnath, which will be readily available. From Baijnath, taxis and local buses are available till Bir.
