Tehri is a popular tourist destination in Uttarakhand mainly because of its various water sport activities and the weather. Tehri is commonly known for its dam reservoir i.e. Tehri Dam. It is one of the tallest dams in the world and the tallest dam in India built across the Bhagirathi river. It is the newly established township which was built after the old Tehri township got converted into Tehri Jheel or Dam reservoir. The city is surrounded by beautiful scenic views and the Himalayan range is clearly visible from here. The overall cool and serene atmosphere of New Tehri soothes one’s mind. New Tehri also provides a nice shopping experience with its vast market.
Chandrabadni is a shakti peeth devoted to Goddess Sati and the height of this temple 2277 metres which gives a beautiful hill top view of the mountains. It is around 58 Kms from New Tehri and one has to trek approximately 1 Km to reach the Temple.
Another holy place located 64 Kms from New Tehri attracts many of the devotees in this Temple. It is dedicated to the Snake God (Nagaraja) and is also covered with beautiful views. One has to trek approx. 7Kms to reach the temple and seek blessings from the Nagaraja and enjoy the breath-taking view.
Dhanaulti is situated in Tehri Garhwal District and is a common travel destination for people living in Dehradun , Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Chamba and Kanatal. It attracts plenty of tourists every year because of its beautiful scenic views all around. This place is covered with tall trees of Oaks, Deodars and rhododendron which keeps the place very cool and beautiful. In Dhanaulti, you can take a 1-2 kilometres trek to the famous Surkanda Devi temple and witness the Himalayas in front of your eyes.
Mussoorie is also known as the Queen of Hills and the best hill station of the Mountains. It is situated around 30 Kms from Dehradun city and is a go-to place for every person visiting or living near Dehradun. This place experiences plenty of tourists in the peak season and has a vast market named as “Mall Road”. The beautiful views all around wherever you see keeps the tourists pleased and happy all through their trip.
Rishikesh is a tourist spot also known as “the adventure capital of India” which includes different activities like River Rafting, Camping, Trekking, Bungee Jumping, Flying Fox and many others. This place is famous for its thrilling activities on River Ganga and also has many Hindu temples to explore. It is situated in Tehri Garhwal district and is 74.2 Kms from New Tehri.
Tehri lake can be reached easily by personal vehicle or private cab.
By Train: The nearest Railway station from Tehri lake is Rishikesh Railway Station.
By Air: The nearest Airport from Tehri lake is Jolly grant Airport (Dehradun).
As you reach Rishikesh you have to drive approximately 65 kilometres to a small town Chamba from where tehri lake is just 20 kilometres.
